Do Not Be Distracted!

Yes! We’ve made it to December. The holiday season is in full swing, with everyone wrapping up their shopping and preparing to travel or welcome family and friends. But amidst the holiday cheer, there's an unwelcome twist—an alarming "Grinch" of sorts lurking in the shadows. This Grinch isn’t here to steal Christmas but something even more profound: February—Black History Month.

On the agenda of the incoming president for 2025 is a plan to remove all books teaching African American history from schools, with a hefty fine imposed on those that don't comply. This raises grave concerns about the erasure of an entire chapter of history, one that is vital to understanding the fabric of our nation.

Most public schools fall under tier-one funding, meaning they rely heavily on state agencies to operate. These schools often cannot afford to pay fines of this magnitude. The financial pressure, coupled with this policy, effectively silences the teaching of African American history, undermining a month dedicated to celebrating and educating about the rich heritage and contributions of Black Americans. Could this be the last Black History month?
